The Future of Catamount Football Begins at E.J. Whitmire Stadium
Western Carolina Athletics is on the rise. From championship runs to record-breaking seasons, Catamount student-athletes continue to push the limits of success—both on the field and in the classroom. Now, their dedication and hard work will be matched by a bold new transformation at E.J. Whitmire Stadium, bringing state-of-the-art facilities and an elevated game-day experience to Cullowhee.
A four-story expansion will modernize the stadium’s west stands, introducing over 9,850 square feet of new space dedicated to coaching, media, and game-day operations. The upgraded press box will accommodate up to 154 personnel, ensuring that Catamount Football is supported at the highest level. Meanwhile, the Chancellor’s Porch and hospitality level will provide a premium experience for up to more than 200 guests, offering breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
“This isn’t just an upgrade—it’s a complete reimagination of what game day and athletic operations can be at WCU,” said Wes Cogdill, director of the Catamount Club. “Our student-athletes work tirelessly to represent Western Carolina with pride. Now, it’s time for our facilities to reflect that same ambition.”
